The Conference was formed in 1982, when six clubs in West Wales grouped together to form a league competition. They were soon joined by a number of other clubs, at a time that the game was growing quickly in this western outpost. Since that time, some of the founder members have moved into other leagues, but of the original members, Aberystwyth CC (formerly Llanilar CC), Lampeter Town and Llandovery remain faithful to the Conference.
In 2008 there will be a single league programme of 12 teams in the Conference. The Sunday League has gone into abeyance and former members of that League, Dolgellau and Tywyn, have joined the Championship. The Conference also operates three junior league competitions at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15.
Geographically, the Conference, covers a large area: from Tywyn in the north to Llandovery in the south. We measure distance in a different way in West Wales than anywhere else! We hope that clubs around our fringes will feel that they will be welcomed into our fold and any of clubs will always welcome new players.
